Top Recipes of 2016

2016 has been chock full of tasty recipes, and I'm so grateful for every reader that has stopped by Gas Stove Girl this year! In fact, the blog hit a big milestone - over 100,000 all-time page views! I am looking forward to even more deliciousness in 2017, and until then here is a round up of your favorite Gas Stove Girl recipes from the past year. Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Tasty New Year!!

A perfect recipe to warm you up this winter, this soup is a fun, creative mash-up of classic chicken and rice soup with spicy Indian curry. A little bit spicy and a whole bunch of flavor, it's no surprise this was the top reader (and writer!) favorite this year!

Who says pumpkin is just for the Thanksgiving season?! These waffles are lightened up with a bit of oat and wholesome wheat flour, a great low-guilt recipe to kick off the new year.

These doughnuts, oh lawdy. Tender, fluffy, and extra sweet, this recipe is my best copy-cat version of the decadent Dunkin Donuts Blueberry Cake donut. That sweet glaze with juicy fresh blueberries is, literally, the icing on the cake!

The ultimate mash-up of my two favorite carbs - soft pretzels and bagels! Turns out, it's not that hard to make either of these, and it's even more fun to make them into one salty, chewy bread. Put this recipe on your bucket list - I know you can do it!

There was a clear trend this year of me taking two or more of my favorite things and combining them into one irresistible dish. This dip is no different! Creamy, dreamy spinach and artichoke dip, plus hearty smokey hummus - what could be better?!

Have your pie and drink it too! I think that's the saying ;-) This rich cocktail is loaded with all the wonderful spices of pumpkin pie, thanks to pumpkin liqueur and Rumchata - this cinnamon cream liqueur is decadence in a bottle!

A simple homemade ice cream recipe loaded with everyone's favorite spread - Nutella! The name says it all.

Here I go again! Two of the best Mexican dishes, smashed together to create a spicy, fulfilling breakfast (or brunch...or dinner, for that matter). Don't skimp on the salsa or sour cream!

An adult spin on a childhood classic, these popsicles are glasses of frozen sangria on a stick! Sweet, tangy, boozy, and delightful.

Whether you are serving these over pasta for dinner or dipping in marinara as an appetizer, Chicken Parmesan Meatballs are a must make recipe! All the flavors of chicken parm, packed down into tender little meatballs. And let's not forget the pièce de résistance...these meatballs are STUFFED with CHEESE! Yes, please!

Football Sunday Appetizers!

Who's ready for some football!?!?!?!?!?!?

Excessive punctuation. My apologies.

It's a rainy Sunday here in the Boston area, which means it's the perfect day to gather up some friends, cook up some tasty appetizers, and enjoy hours and hours of football! Sounds fun to me--just add beer!

Here's some inspiration to get your appetizer gears grinding. Follow the links to the step by step recipes and get cooking!

BBQ Chicken Nachos.

Swoon. You need these in your life. Traditional nachos with a cheesy, barbeque-y, twist. Plenty to share, if you're willing of course.

Pepperoni Pizza Dip.

What do you get when you add cream cheese, pepperonis, melted mozzarella cheese and warm marinara sauce? If you said, APPETIZER BLISS, you'd be right. This dip begs to be eaten with slices of warm Italian bread.

Crispy Sweet Potato Ravioli.

It's all the flavors of autumn, packed into a tasty little bite. Sweet potato, caramelized onions and mushrooms are packed into wonton wrappers and fried until crispy. These are going to fly off the table like crazy!

Crab Rangoons.

You're favorite Chinese take-out snack, right in your own kitchen. What is better than cream cheese and crab meat fried to golden brown perfection? Very little, in fact.

Creamy White Bean Dip.

The elegant older brother of hummus, this white bean dip is packed with fresh herbs and bright lemon juice. White beans are soft and subtle. Dip anything into this dish, and you'll be a happy camper. I enjoy it with celery sticks, english cucumbers, and whole wheat tortilla scoops!

Enjoy!

Winter's Wrath

Is it just me or can winter just not quit it this year? I'm still wearing my down coat, and for the past two days I've had to wear my intense snow boots. Today is the official first day of spring but winter is just holding on for dear life, spraying every last bit of frozen and powdery snow upon us.

I'm really angry with winter right now.

I have been crazy busy this week with work and appointments and presentations. That's why I've been a little MIA in the blog-o-sphere recently...I apologize for that. I even made Irish Soda Bread for St. Patty's day but was too much of an airhead to properly document that process. UGH. There's always next year.

In the spirit of being cold, this is a perfect time to remind everyone that there is a wealth of heartwarming soups here on Gas Stove Girl that are sure to ease winter's continued  chill. Here is a wrap up of some of my favorites. If you have snow in your forecast again (BOSTON DOES GRR!) this is the perfect opportunity to make one of this flavorful dishes.

If you love Panera's broccoli cheddar soup, this Broccoli Cheddar Soup recipe hits all the right notes. I'm talking two different cheddar cheeses, loads of broccoli, and shredded carrots. Add in a crusty bread or go all the way and put this in a bread bowl for the ultimate soup-eating experience.

Chicken Tortilla Soup is so hip these days, and this recipe is the best one I've ever tried. Packed with bold flavors and hearty vegetables and topped with smooth avocado and homemade corn tortilla strips. I can't wait to get my hands on another pot of this.

Sweet Potato Lentil Soup is a wild and crazy idea that turns out to be the ultimate combination of sweet and spicy goodness. Plus it is packed with all sorts of great nutrients from our good friend, sweet potato, and our other good friend, lentil.

Tender beef and a rich tomato base takes this Beef Barley Stoup to the next level. I stole the term "stoup" from Rachel Ray, who describes it as a combination of a stew and a soup. This dish is so rich, and thick, and hearty that the term "stoup" fit in seamlessly.

Potage Parmentier, or Potato Leek Soup is a classic comfort food that begs for a delicious french baguette for dipping. This soup is elegant enough to entertain, and yummy enough to feed to a ravenous family of 4. It is the epitome of Julia Child in a pot -- what could be wrong with that?

Enjoy these delicious soups -- I hope they warm you up like a snuggie! I will be back soon with some fun new recipes I think you'll love!

I'm off to sea!

Hi blog-loves!

Hope you've been enjoying the recent posts here on Gas Stove Girl. I'm having a ton of fun cooking and eating them, and I hope you do too!

Like any good adult, I'm treating myself to a tropical vacation for the next week. I'll be cruising with my good friend to Belize and Cozumel--can you say bright sunshine and 85 degree weather?! I NEED IT!

Since I will be in the middle of the ocean, I won't have any new posts for you. That doesn't mean you can't be cooking though! Perhaps you want to give one of Gas Stove Girl's most popular recipes a try.

These Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers have far and away attracted the most readers. They are cheesy and hearty, all the amazing flavors of a traditional Philly Cheesesteak stuffed in a pepper...YUM!

Perhaps you need something to warm you up. In that case, Mom's Lentil Soup is a popular stop. This soup is healthy and flavorful, and makes you feel right at home.

My Ground Lamb Lettuce Wraps are packed with rustic Mediterranean flavors. They are light and satisfying. A great alternative to a traditional taco.

This French Onion Pasta is comfort food at it's finest. A full meal inspired by a traditional French Onion soup. That means there is bubbly melted cheese on top...you're welcome!

If you love your Crock Pot as much as I do, then you are going to love this Crock Pot Chicken Cacciatore. This meal rocked my socks off. A little bit of prep work leads to a rich, flavorful, and down-right addicting chicken dish.

Have fun cooking while I am away! Let me know what kinds of recipes you'd like to see when I get back, and be sure to comment on any posts with recipes that you've tried -- I'd love to know how it went for you.

Pictures of my tropical paradise to follow!

Until next time,

Jess xo
